Dạ thì hôm nay ông chết nửa đời người rồi đấy!
Nhà bác học ta lúc đó mới cảm thấy nóng mặt nóng tay, nhưng rồi sóng càng to, thuyền càng bị đánh, bị nước ào ạt tràn vào, biết không thể nào tránh khỏi bị đắm giữa sông sâu, sóng cả, anh lái đò hốt hoảng hỏi:
Chết, chết. Thưa ông, ông biết lội (bơi) không ạ!
Nhà bác học tái xanh mặt mày lại:
Dạ thưa anh, tôi không biết lội, lạy anh, anh cứu tôi, không thì tôi nguy mất!
Anh lái đò nhìn nhà bác học đáp:
Không biết lội nữa à! Chèng đéc ơi, thế thì hôm nay ông chết cả đời người, còn gì?
